To mark World Cancer Day, the Anchors for Public Health and Nutrition Initiative carried out a sensitization and awareness program on cancer at Great Success Model Secondary School, Gombe. The program was designed to provide students with accurate health information on cancer, address misconceptions, and encourage early detection and preventive practices.
Cancer remains a major public health challenge, and increasing awareness among young people is a strategic approach to reducing its burden through education and prevention.
The program was aimed at creating awareness on cancer and promoting early detection as a key strategy for effective treatment and improved survival outcomes.
The objectives of the sensitization program were to:
1. Educate students on what cancer is and how it develops
2. Highlight common cancer risk factors
3. Teach students the importance of early detection
4. Encourage healthy lifestyle choices to reduce cancer risks
5. Promote community-wide awareness through student knowledge transfer
